IG27 announces ATCO as International Flag Partner
Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 is proud to announce ATCO as International Flag Partner, bringing one of Canada’s most iconic companies, and a global leader in energy, housing, and defence, to Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.
ATCO brings a longstanding commitment to the Invictus Games to this partnership, with a proud history of supporting the Games as Co-Presenting Partner of Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Presenting Sponsor of Team Canada from 2022 to 2029, a continued global partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, and Presenting Sponsor of the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards.
ATCO also has a decades-long and deeply-rooted, multifaceted relationship with veterans and the military community and have now extended their support to Birmingham 2027 as International Flag Partner, reflecting a commitment to shared values of courage, resilience, and unconquerable spirit.
The Invictus Games Flag symbolises the courage and resilience of the thousands of Wounded, Injured, and Sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans who have participated in the Games. As Official Partner, ATCO’s role is central to bringing this symbol to life on the road to Birmingham 2027.
The Flag’s journey to Birmingham 2027 began in Vancouver Whistler, symbolising the handover from the 2025 Games, to Birmingham 2027.
The Flag will then be carried to Birmingham 2027 through a series of extraordinary expedition challenges, each one a testament to the spirit of those the Games celebrates:
Full Circle Sailing Expedition, 17 March 2026 – 11 June 2026 - a 2,000-nautical-mile sailing expedition around the UK stopping at 23 ports, powered by over 70 WIS Service personnel and veterans over 12 weeks in two incredible classically rigged tall ships. Delivered with Turn to Starboard.
Beyond the Summit Mountaineering Climb, 16 June 2026 - 29 June 2026 – a 12-day mountaineering and climbing expedition, conquering the 52 iconic peaks and summits of the Scotland, Wales and England with around 120 Armed Forces WIS, achieving 4 world records and finishing at the inspiring Commando Ridge, Cornwall. Delivered with Climb 2 Recovery.
Three Peaks Hiking Challenge, 1 May 2027 – 3 May 2027 - set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, setting off from Camp INVICTUS on a multi-stage hike with around 200 people from the Armed Forces WIS, serving military and cadets and the wider military charity sector looking to conquer their part of the 42km challenge.
Forces Cycling Adventure, 23 June 2027 – 30 June 2027 - a cycling sportive that will draw around 800 people from across the Armed Forces WIS community on the 1200km, 13,000m climbing challenge stopping at 13 military bases and the National Memorial Gardens.
ATCO’s support as International Flag Partner ensures this journey is made possible, connecting the legacy of Vancouver Whistler 2025 to the promise of Birmingham 2027.
The partnership reflects a shared hope for lasting connections, continued impact, and support that extends beyond the Games themselves, for the wounded, injured and sick at heart, and for the communities in Birmingham and the West Midlands that will welcome them.
Birmingham 2027 takes place at a time when the need for visible, sustained support for WIS service personnel has never been greater. With conflicts continuing across the world, men and women are returning from service with physical injuries, non-visible wounds, and the lasting effects of operational stress. The Invictus Games provides a structured, sport-led pathway to recovery, and an opportunity for the public to recognise and understand the sacrifices made by those who serve.
Nancy Southern, Chair and Chief Executive Officer at ATCO, said:
“Just as the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 honour resilience and unity, the Flag Journey is something we are immensely proud to champion, standing as a powerful testament to shared pride, cultural identity, and our unwavering commitment to veterans.
The journey awaiting the flag bearers will challenge them in body, heart, and mind - a symbolic reminder of the immense sacrifices made by service women and men worldwide ”
Chris Conneally, Managing Director, Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said:
"Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 are delighted to welcome ATCO as International Flag Partner. ATCO's commitment to the Invictus Community is both longstanding and deeply felt, and we are proud to have them with us on the journey to Birmingham 2027.
The Invictus Games Flag is a powerful symbol of the courage and resilience of every Wounded, Injured, and Sick service personnel and veteran who has participated in the Invictus Games.
ATCO’s partnership ensures that symbol continues to inspire as the Flag makes its way to Birmingham 2027 through a nationwide tour of extraordinary expedition challenges, connecting veterans, communities, and the enduring spirit of the Invictus Games at every step."”
