IG27 Appoints Local Partners for Culture & Arts Strategy

Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 Commissions Local Creative Organisations to deliver a Culture and Arts Strategy for the Games

Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 (IG27) have announced the commissioning of leading creative organisations Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces and Culture Central, alongside Arts Consultant Amy Dalton-Hardy, to develop a bold and inclusive Culture and Arts Strategy for the Games.

The strategy will be incorporated into the IG27 festival programme, complementing the world-class adaptive sport competition with a vibrant cultural offer designed to celebrate creativity, community and connection. It will showcase the very best of Birmingham and the West Midlands’ rich and diverse cultural landscape, highlighting local talent, stories and voices on an international stage.

Through this collaboration, IG27 are proud to create opportunities for people from all backgrounds to engage with the Invictus spirit. The programme will explore innovative ways to bring together art, culture and the powerful narratives of the wounded, injured and sick (WIS) from the Armed Forces community.

Jules Merrison, Director of Impact, Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said:

While the Invictus Games will always be rooted in sport, creative storytelling and adaptive arts offer a unique and exciting opportunity to engage wider communities by amplifying diverse voices, celebrating the Invictus Spirit, and connecting with the rich cultural landscape of the West Midlands. Alongside this, there’s real scope to dial up the fun factor and enhance the overall spectator experience.

Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces and Culture Central bring extensive, local experience in delivering large-scale, place-based cultural programme. Amy Dalton-Hardy offers deep expertise in inclusive arts practice, strategic development and fundraising. Working together with Culture Central using their regional convening role, they will work closely with regional partners, artists and communities to co-create a programme that is accessible, representative and reflective of Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Amy Dalton-Hardy, said:

Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 understands something that great artists and communities already know: disability is not a limitation, it's a lens. It shapes creativity, builds resilience and opens up stories that deserve to be told on the biggest stages. Accessibility as a starting point, not an afterthought, is central to how I work and I can't wait to bring that thinking to my work with OPUS and Culture Central on IG27."

The Culture and Arts Strategy will be designed to strengthen cultural partnerships, support creative industries, and ensure Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 leaves a lasting impact across the region.

Further details of the programme will be announced in due course.
