The Forces Employment Charity is today named as a Social Impact Partner of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, helping to create opportunities for wounded, injured and sick service personnel (WIS), veterans, reservists and their families as they navigate employment, retraining and career transition.

The partnership forms part of the Games' wider social impact ambitions and will support members of the Armed Forces community to build confidence and develop the practical tools they need to pursue a meaningful career.

As Social Impact Partner, the Forces Employment Charity will work alongside the Birmingham 2027 team to deliver a dedicated Employability Workshop Series inspired by the themes of recovery, resilience and reconnection. This will sit alongside engagement opportunities with employers to raise awareness of the benefit of recruiting from the wounded, injured and sick community, including a networking event that will bring Forces-friendly employers and wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans together alongside support organisations.

For many members of the Armed Forces community, recovery is not only about rehabilitation. It is also about rebuilding confidence, reconnecting with purpose and exploring what comes next. Through this partnership, Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 and the Forces Employment Charity will ensure that participants have access to practical support, understand their workplace rights and can connect with opportunities and networks to support their career goals.

The Employability Workshop Series has been designed for those who are wounded, injured, or sick; medically discharged; on a recovery journey; living with accessibility requirements or a registered disability; as well as family members supporting a wounded, injured or sick service person or veteran.

Jules Merrison, Director of Impact, Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said:

“The Invictus Games is about recognising potential, not limitations. Many wounded, injured and sick veterans possess exceptional resilience and adaptability developed through overcoming significant challenges. This project is about translating those strengths into meaningful careers beyond military service, while demonstrating to employers the enormous value this community brings to the workforce.”

Matt Bazeley OBE, Chief Executive, Forces Employment Charity, said:

“We are proud to be a Social Impact Partner of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, supporting the wounded, injured and sick veterans and their families with the confidence and practical support they need to build a sustainable career.

“At the Forces Employment Charity, we see every day how meaning employment enables people to live with purpose and stability. We know that the military community faces additional barriers when seeking civilian employment, so we are committed to supporting the whole military community, raising awareness and creating opportunities that extend beyond the Games, empowering people to explore new career and entrepreneurial opportunities.”

The programme also includes dedicated employer engagement activity aimed at helping organisations better understand how they can support wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans into civilian employment through inclusive and accessible recruitment and workplace practices.
