Jonny Ball

Jonny Ball is a former British Army soldier who served on operational tours in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan before his life changed dramatically in 2019, when a severe motorcycle accident caused devastating injuries to his lower leg and led to years of surgery, rehabilitation and psychological recovery.

Sport became a turning point in rebuilding his confidence and sense of self, helping him reconnect with the parts of his identity he feared he had lost. Jonny went on to represent Team UK at the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023, competing in powerlifting, cycling and captaining the indoor rowing team, embracing the challenge and the sense of momentum that returning to sport gave him. Being part of the Games helped Jonny rediscover motivation, purpose and community at a time when he was navigating both physical and emotional trauma, and he continues to draw strength from the Invictus network through ongoing sporting activity and participation in the We Are Invictus platform. Today, Jonny remains committed to demonstrating what people can overcome, using sport not only to support his own progress but also to help inspire others navigating life after injury.
