FINANCE DIRECTOR

£70,000 FTE

2 days a week (0.4 (FTE)

The Finance Director is responsible for the delivery and management of compliant financial systems for Invictus UK 2027; which is the delivery organisation for the UK Invictus Games that will take place in Birmingham in 2027; and for the associated legacy and impact activities.  

They will ensure compliance with legal, financial and governance standards and provide strategic financial oversight ensuring that the organisation operates within agreed financial parameters.  

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Own and maintain a robust financial control framework for the organisation, ensuring compliance with the Charity Commission Internal Controls framework and similar best practice. 

  • Manage the month-end process, including the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting for the Board and Audit and Risk Committee.   

  • Develop reporting to ensure that management have the information needed to operate the organisation and make decisions. 

  • Complete the annual statutory accounts and Charity Commission Annual Return, ensuring that these are approved and filed within the statutory deadline. 

  • Working with the Event Director, manage and maintain a detailed rolling forecast and cashflow model. 

  • Support the set up and manage the effective operation of a trading subsidiary, including building it as a new company within Xero, developing reporting and ensuring that systems and processes are in place. 

  • Maintain the Authority Matrix and authorisation processes 

  • Maintain online banking, ensuring that staff are added and removed as roles change and in accordance with the authority matrix 

  • Administer the finance system, ensuring that staff have appropriate access, and that coding and control is maintained. 

  • Operate the monthly payroll process and all related statutory reporting and payments 

  • Operate the supplier payment, staff expense and sales invoicing processes. 

  • Own and operate the processes for Gift Aid, VAT returns and all statutory taxes, ensuring that submissions and all related payments are made in a timely manner. 

  • Develop a reserves policy 

  • Working with the Audit and Risk Committee, run a procurement and appoint auditors and complete an interim controls review.  

  • Collate accurate financial reporting as required by donors and supporters. 

  • Contribute to the development of risk management systems 

  • Complete regular training for new and existing staff to help maintain an awareness of fraud risk and the importance of financial controls. 

  • Lead the annual audit for the charity and trading subsidiary, acting as key point of contact for the auditors. 

  • Help with planning for longer term financial management staffing requirements  

  • Undertake other activities as may be reasonably required 

 

Essential Experience 

  • Experienced Charity Finance Director 

  • Hold a relevant professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) 

  • Strong knowledge of charity finance regulations including SORP and Charity Act compliance 

  • Experienced in working within charities that operate subsidiary trading companies. 

  • At least 2 years experience of working with Audit and Risk committees 

  • Experience of managing income from multiple sources, including sponsorship, donations, grants and trading income
