The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will provide senior leadership for the planning and delivery of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, ensuring the Games are delivered safely, securely, efficiently and to the highest standard, in line with our vision and strategy.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, the COO will have overall responsibility for Games operations and sport delivery. This is a pivotal leadership role, requiring significant experience of large-scale, multi-venue event delivery, strong operational judgement, and the ability to integrate complex programmes across a diverse organisation.
Working closely with the Sports Director and Operations Director, the COO will oversee Games delivery planning, venue and supplier relationships, risk management and operational readiness. The role will ensure that all elements of Games operations – including sport, venues, logistics, transport, accommodation, security, protocol and readiness – are fully integrated and delivered within agreed budgets and timelines.
The COO will play a key role in stakeholder engagement, building and maintaining strong relationships with venues, suppliers, sporting bodies, Participating Nations and public sector partners. The role will also provide operational input to the Board and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure value for money, effective controls and rapid decision-making, particularly during the Games delivery period.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role requiring presence in Birmingham during the Games delivery period. The position is advertised as full-time; however, applications from suitably qualified candidates seeking a fractional arrangement will also be considered, with the expectation that time commitment may increase as the Games approach.
Flexible, hybrid working arrangements are available, with the organisation operating across London and Birmingham.
This is a full-time, fixed-term role to October 2027, with an indicative salary of £120,000 per annum, plus potential end-of-Games bonus.
Employee benefits include:
30 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays
Flexible working arrangements to be discussed
Hybrid working across London, Birmingham and home working
