Helen was appointed by Government to lead the bid and now delivery of the Invictus Games 2027. She has spent over 20 years in the civil service, mainly within the Ministry of Defence, with secondments across Government. Her roles have focused on developing and delivering people-centred strategies and policies, achieving impact across government, the private sector, the third sector and academia. Previously, Helen was Director Armed Forces People Policy at the Ministry of Defence, leading a team of over 200 and overseeing more than £7bn in public sector expenditure annually.
The Invictus Games hold personal significance for Helen. She served as a policy adviser for Op HERRICK, Afghanistan, reporting on casualties and fatalities in 2005-06, and subsequently led national-level work supporting the wounded, injured and sick Armed Forces community. Helen instigated the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, chairing its trustees for five years and overseeing the allocation of over £200m in grants. She also served as Defence Armed Forces Mental Health and Wellbeing Champion and presented at the Sydney Invictus Games.
Helen has represented Team UK as Head of Delegation at both the Hague and Dusseldorf Invictus Games. Her work consistently combines strategic leadership with a commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes for the Armed Forces community. She continues to champion initiatives that make a lasting difference to service personnel and veterans.
