Gavin served in the British Army as an infantry officer from 1989, taking on operational, training and defence diplomacy roles worldwide. He specialised in leadership, programme and project management, and technical capability development for reconnaissance, surveillance, communications systems and armoured vehicles. He held numerous command and staff positions, including Chief of Staff at the UK’s Joint HQ in Afghanistan.

Following a serious injury, Gavin spent several years on recovery, including winning an Invictus UK gold medal, before medically discharging from the Army. He then worked with Invictus UK and as a solutions architect and customer liaison for the MOD’s Land Warfare Centre, supporting development of the Land Training System.

Gavin holds Masters degrees in strategic leadership and planning, and defence technology management. He has been a senior lecturer at military university and served as Chief of Staff to the Head of Delegation for Invictus UK for two sets of Games. He will continue in this role for the 2025 Games in Canada.
